I’m going to let the tunes do the talking on our twentieth podcast. This one will put some bubbles in your bath.

We found out last night that our podcasts were shortlisted for The Irish Web Awards in Best Podcast category. That’s exciting! Luckily enough, we were due to record this anyway. Once again, we bring you the best new songs that have tickled our ears from Boston’s Passion Pit, Sheffield thanks to former 65 Days of Static member Feedle, London’s bonkers Max Tundra, Brooklyn’s groovy Gang Gang Dance, Dublin’s finest wind-up electronic from the Vinny Club, two sweaty lesbians from Tampa, LA’s noiseniks No Age plus Kentucky’s ambient Interstates and Bristol’s experimentallers Fuck Buttons. Plus, a strange oddity in Neil Young’s discography from 1982 thrown in! Aoife represents.

There’s been so much great music to digest lately and June’s podcast is the perfect format to showcase it all. The new BSS side-project/album, King Khan’s dastardly garage stomps (That’s him above), White Denim’s schizo dirty rock ‘n’ roll, a dollop of quality electronica, deep dancehall and dubstep from London, Irish alt-rock, indie and much more. Thanks to Aoife for the presenting. On with show sixteen! Download away.

April’s podcast starts with the most bizarre medieval electro track you’ve ever heard. Seriously, you’ll be prancin’ about like the medieval minstrel from Monty Python’s The Holy Grail after two minutes. The rest of this podcast took 8 hours to prepare and then we let it marinate overnight. Presented by Aoife, it includes an exclusive tune from Jape’s new album Ritual, Scandanavian popster Lykke Li, Electronic wizard Daedelus, cinematic soundtrack music from Quiet Village, soul from Erykah Badu, an Animal Collective doppelganger from Born Ruffians, Irish electronic singer/songwriter David Turpin (whose song sounds like another famous tune, if you know what it is holler in the comments), the half-Swedish, half-Irish Kill Krinkle Club, Anticon’s...

Wandering around cyberspace this week looking for interesting podcasts to take with me on the flight to New York at the end of the week brought me to these conversations with Adam Phillips. In BBC Radio 4's Open Book Phillips talks about his most recent book Side Effects and in this shorter clip he talks about Going Sane. There's a longer interview with Phillips recorded at the New York Public Library in May of last year here....
Benjamin Zander, conductor and author of The Art of Possibility speaks about leadership in this podcast. One of my favourite quotes is:
Who am I being that my players' eyes are not shining?

How important is confidentiality at work? and how much of my product offering as a consultant is the guarantee that whatever is told to me will be held in confidence? Are consultants professional secret keepers? and how much of our work is containing and sanitising misdemeanours offering them back as palatable organisational learnings? What or whom are we minding?
Following my previous post on confidentiality I invited Johnnie Moore and Matt Moore to talk about these and other confidential matters via Skype this morning and here's the resulting podcast. Show notes follow and thanks to Johnnie for being the sound engineer on the project.

I had the notion months ago that December’s podcast would feature all Irish music and what better way to showcase this country’s talent than to take the results of the public poll for Irish EPs and make a podcast out of it. The top 14 EPs were as follows with number of votes in brackets:......

Well, myself and Aoife are heading off to Poland for the week so we are going to leave you with this nugget of a podcast. It’s longer than usual but all these tunes come highly recommended.
There are two songs from the recent Well Deep: Ten Years of Big Dada compilation, a song from a compilation of rock instrumentals from the 50’s and 60’s called Loose Ends which can be found for download at the excellent Yank Sizzler, songs from the new releases by Saul Williams, Akala, Muscles, Neon Neon (that’s Gruff and Boom Bip in the Delorean above) and Free Blood, as well as a soon to be released Super Extra Bonus Party remix by Nouveaunoise, an excellent Burial remix and oldies from The Pharcyde and Paul Simon.
Mike will take care of the blog while I’m gone....

We finally recorded number eight last night, despite being overcome with random giddiness all day yesterday. Do you ever get like that? When you can’t help but do something silly by default. Anyway, I made it very difficult for Aoife when she was recording it cos I was like that. Poor girl.
Likin’ this one. I have been holding back on posting some of these songs on their own as I wanted to put them into the Podcast. We start with a song from Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof soundtrack, take in a tune from Flylo’s excellent Reset EP, a beautiful new José Gonzalez tune, Jeffrey Lewis covering Crass, a Thom Yorke remix, a song from yet another shelved Q-Tip album, Wicklow boys Hybrasil, a band with a stupid name and a Frenchman with an ear for soundtracks.
Aoife Mc,...
Part two of my conversation on the shadow side of organisations with Johnnie Moore and Matt Moore has now been posted by Johnnie - you can download it or listen to it here. Johnnie has also complied some great show notes which I am re-publishing I'm curious to know how long it took Johnnie to edit and prepare the audio and show notes...looks like lots of work to me (thanks Johnnie).
Here are the show notes with the same caveat as for part one: The timings are approximate and this is my paraphrasing of what was said. Don't take them it too literally. This was a conversation and not as linear as even these rough notes might suggest.
0.00 Annette asks Matt, with what I’d say is a slight sense of irony in her voice, what knowledge management really is. Is it a gatekeeper? It...

Following the blogging and podcasting workshop I ran with Conn earlier this year and some of our conversations about extending the reach of publicly funded services Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Library Service (a client of mine) decided to commission a series of 2 podcasts of one of their cultural events Books in the Park. The podcasts were created by Conn at Edgecast Media and part one The Children's Corner is now available for download from the DLRCC Library website. Part 2 will be available next week and I'll link to that once it's online.
The event itself was held in Cabinteely Park on 23rd of June, organised by the Library and Parks Service and 5 Childrens' authors read their work to a rapt audience. Conn and Brian Greene recorded the events and interviewed a...

Rory from Ten Past Seven on stage at Mantua - July 2007
Everytime we do our monthly podcast, I’m convinced each one is better than the previous but I think this may be the month where this rings true! Twelve mighty tunes - some old and rare, some new and apparently rare.
Included are two b-sides from recent 7″ releases, one a Diplo remix of that “Notorious” Jamaica tune from Turbulence (which Boomkat says is rare but I bought it in Tower Records ferchrissakes!) and the Yo Majesty remix of The Go! Team’s “Doin it Right”. Also featured is New York Latin Hustle flavour from Seguida, cheesy Disney Ska, a surprisingly good Princess Superstar song from 2001, a new Prefuse 73 single, new Beirut, Hard Working Class Heroes Irish bands and an old blog...

I think this is the upbeat podcast I’ve been promising all summer. As the sun finally shone this weekend, it puts us in good stead for the next when we descend on Stradbally once again for the festival of the year. So to get you all pumped about the Electric Picnic which starts Friday, this month’s podcast is all Electric Picnic artists.
It can be the soundtrack to your preparations: frantically searching for timetables online, buying another tent because you weren’t arsed taking down that huge 12 man tent last year, deciding whether to brave it without wellies or the last minute dash for toilet roll.
I’m looking forward to seeing two sets from the Beastie Boys so much so we started this podcast with a favourite of mine from the NY men. Enjoy and see you down the...

Natasha Khan aka Bat for Lashes lazing on a sunny afternoon courtesy of Lee Shearman.
I was going to make this an upbeat, summer podcast but 50-odd days of consecutive rain can obviously get a brotha down so it’s a bit more of a chilled out affair than usual with more guitar music than usual. I still had a chance to squeeze in a track from my favourite MC MF Doom as he has a re-released deluxe packaged version of “Mmm.. Food” out and we have a couple of bass stompers to round off July from Boxcutter and Prince Kong. We’re also highlighting the Remix Artist Collective with two remixes of theirs of The Shins & Tokyo Police Club back to back. Thanks once again to Aoife Mc for presenting. Represent!

Wow, last month’s podcast holds the top spot with nearly double the amount of downloads/listens (Roughly 1200) than the previous two months! So we’re psyched to be bringing you another cool collection with tracks from MIA, YACHT, Thinguma*jigsaw, UNKLE, Chequerboard, Pharoahe Monch, Jaylib, Islands and a few more gems including a Go! Team mashup and some music from Mali interpersed with rants about the weather - how Irish.
The podcast is presented by our radio presenter in chief - Aoife Mc and she kindly let us share a track from last week’s Indie Hour radio show from NC Lawlor, who you may know as the busker on Grafton St. You can get the whole sesh at the Indie Hour Podcast HQ.

I’m delighted to introduce to you, the first nialler9 monthly podcast presented by Aoife Mc, radio DJ from The Indie Hour on 103.2fm Dublin City Anna Livia FM. Every Thursday night from 9 to 10pm, The Indie Hour aims to give air to the often forgotten and ignored homegrown talent of the Irish music scene, with live interviews, sessions and a gig guide. So I’m obviously delighted to have such a fervent supporter of the Irish music scene on board for the podcast!
As always It’s an eclectic affair taking in some Irish acts, Baile Funk, Indie, Dubstep, Hip Hop and two special songs from a fantastic compilation entitled “Money Be No Sand” which compiled Afro-lypso, rock and soul from Nigerian and Ghanaian artists from the 60s. You can subscribe to the Podcast RSS...

So this week is the one year anniversary of J Dilla’s untimely death. As I said back in April last year, it’s sad that it takes the death of a person to recognise the value of their life’s work but the sentiments around the remembrance are celebratory, life-affirming even, if you’re familiar with the fruits of his talent which is what we have left. So I’d like to take some time to highlight some of the songs which have shaped the legacy of one of hip hop’s greats as well as take in some of the things which are happening at present to further the status of J Dilla as lengendary producer, rapper and hip hop luminary.

A reader (or so he says he could be a mass-mailer for all I know) calling himself DJ White Mike has started a podcast from his hometown in San Francisco and it’s good enough to share. He’s only on his second episode but it is a Valentines Day combatant mix that has nothing to do with Valentine’s Day of course - which is a good thing. I gave it a listen earlier on and like all good mixes, there’s some new stuff you haven’t heard that you like and some old stuff you’ve almost forgotten about.
Kudos to White Mike for reminding me of the MIA / Richard X remix of Ciara’s “Goodies”, Jurassic 5’s “Day at the Races” and Beck’s “Sissyneck” (It’s been a while Odelay..).
