It’s coming in January. Legendary....

I remember seeing Rodrigo Y Gabriela on Grafton Street every now and again about six or seven years back as I’m sure some of you might also recall. I remember seeing then in a small theatre show in Newbridge about five years ago and being blown away by their considerable skill. Foc is a great album too for a pair of busking Mexicans in Ireland. Of course, in the last few years, they have left Ireland and have been playing on US late night talks shows like Letterman and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and have been pretty much gigging worldwide since.
Their new live album showcases their skill in arena most suited to them. It was recorded in Tokyo and so is called Live in Japan. The album also comes with a five-track live DVD of the gig. I’ve been kindly given 5 CDs...

All sweetness and light.

The honour of
Fabric’s first proper artist album release has fallen to Portugal’s
Buraka Som Sistema and their debut album Black Diamond. Their sound has been invariably described as electro ghettotech and Euro baile funk but in reality, it is rooted in Kudoro - a genre which is thriving in Lisbon’s suburbs but was born in Angola. It shares tone and rhythm with that break-off track from earlier in the year
DJ Mujava’s ‘Township Funk’. The album, Black Diamond is well worth a look if these tunes (one featuring the “retired” M.I.A and another Pongolove) take your fancy.

I talked about Rainbow Arabia’s The Basta EP. This video certainly matches their aesthetic (even if it is kinda silly).

I really hope this girl is massive next year. She was a sparsely attended highlight at Electric Picnic. Here’s her new video. She plays as part of the Bestival Reunion on the 14th November in Tripod.

A superb live version of Owen Pallett’s ‘The CN Tower Belongs to the Dead’ segued into Feist’s ‘My Moon, My Man’ by a Meath band I hadn’t heard a note of until last week. If anything the darkness of the footage adds to the cover.
