Raptureponies has listed out what floats her proverbial boat (I’m not sure if she has a real one, maybe she does) and I’ve been asked to participate. These are the things which make me happy (in no particular order):
- My Cats: They were born in the back garden and although the group was five, two still remain (Fat and Mogey). Anyone who’s a regular here knows how I post photos of them every now and then. They’re legends.
- Music: I’ve varied my musical listenings over the past few years diversifying to new genres, styles etc. I’m glad I did as I’ve come across some really cool stuff and have been to some amazing gigs. Case in point: I was given Scott Matthew’s album ‘Passing Stranger’ the other day by one of the lads from the...

Balls. More knee-jerk reactionism from a company representing the voice of the endangered. Did anyone tell them that you can’t download songs from Muxtape?
No artists or labels have complained. The site is not closed indefinitely. Stay tuned.

Taken at Muse in Marley Park on Wednesday evening. T’was a really good gig with the guys starting with ‘Map of the Problematique’ and finishing with ‘Knights of Cydonia’. ‘Feelin Good’ was sung by the whole place along with ‘Plug In Baby’ towards the end. The only crappy part of the evening was travelling to and from Marley Park. It took us an hour and twenty minutes from the city centre which meant we missed Kasabian.......

Technically they’re not stars but seen as I’m going to Muse tonight and this entry is about meteors, I’m making the leap. Indulge me. RP pointed out the fact that a meteor shower has been peaking over the past few days. Monday night was too overcast and rainy to see anything in Dublin but the clouds cleared enough last night for me to see four meteors burning up in the atmosphere. This kind of stuff fascinates me. Nothing can bring you down to earth (excuse the pun) more than to look up at the stars and realise that what we have here is truly unique and wondrous. The shower should still be visible tonight and you can view Astronomy Ireland’s info on it here.
Segwaying straight from that to Marley Park where Muse play this evening. The first time I saw them was at...

Lottie has tagged me with the movie of your life meme. I think I saw people doing this ages ago but I never partook. Well consider that fixed.
The Rules!
1. List the people who would play you, and the people in your life.
2. Give credit to the person who tagged you. That’d be Lottie mentioned above.
3. Link your answers to the original blog, that’s http://www.iRamble.co.uk
4. Tag four new people to participate.
To play me:
Despite what the ladies seem to think from the burlesque shenanigans, I wouldn’t pick any of the Bond actors. Well, maybe Daniel Craig. I’d be thinking more along the lines of Michael J Fox, Zach Braff, John Cusack or Topher Grace. Actually James McEvoy would probably be bang on. Always had a lot of respect for that guy, he seems decent...

I love how this has caused a furore over here. It just a music magazine (albeit now at a cheaper €4.95) with a FREE CD featuring Heathers, Fight Like Apes, Adebisi Shank, Halfset, The Jimmy Cake, Mumblin’ Deaf Ro, The Vinny Club, Jape vs Delorentos and more. This country. You people. There’s also an article by myself about the Illegal Art label which talks to Girl Talk and Steinski about music copyright and sampling. it is accompanied by superb illustration from BrenB. Forget about Abba, buy it for that and tell me what you think....

I’ve been using WordPress for god knows how long now. I mainly blog about crap but, like any other blogger, I love to see people interacting with the site and leaving comments. As Darragh has outlined before, comments are the life blood of blogs. I browse a lot of blogs each day and comment on quite a few. The comments sections in these blogs sometimes turn into more than just standalone comments on an article, they become conversations instead.
Most of you will have seen the little tick box at the end of a comment form indicating whether or not you want to be emailed if someone else comments. It’s simple, effective and in most cases is the “Subscribe to Comments” plugin (developed by Mark Jaquith), at least on WordPress blogs. That single tick can drag me back to...

Andrew reminded me on Saturday that I hadn’t posted a response to his irritation meme so that kicked my ass into finishing it. Here are ze rules:
1. List two things that irritate you for a reason (and list the reason!), and two things that irritate you for no apparent reason whatsoever!!
2. Give credit to the person who tagged you - that’d be Andrew
3. Link your answers to the original blog, that’s here (http://www.skillett.com)
4. Tag four new people to participate.
Things that irritate me for a reason:

Have you ever danced with the Devil in the pale moon light?
If there’s one line from Tim Burton’s Batman that has stuck with me over the years then it’s that. Uttered by the Jack Nicholson’s Joker it epitomised the character in one line. Fast forward to 2008. After Christopher Nolan’s first foray into Gotham City with Batman Begins, the sequel has been anticipated like no other this year (bar Indiana Jones). The PR job has been fantastic and the film opened last week in the States with a record breaking 3 day tally.
So what did I make of it? As I mentioned last week, I took the time to catch up with Begins and I’m glad I did. The universe that Nolan has shaped is so expansive that you multiple viewings reveal details that would slip past you normally....

Ireland’s favourite EU commissioner Charlie McCreevy is responsible for the proposal to extend EU copyright law by 45 years under the proviso of helping ’struggling session players’ to earn money when they’re old. The proposal has now passed the commission and is on the way to the parliament. What does this really mean?
Well, extending copyright under the noble cause of helping “thousands of anonymous session musicians who contributed to sound recordings in the late fifties and sixties” as McCreevy puts it, also allows record labels to live off these artists for another 45 years while simultaneously extending the barrier that legally allows creativity in the form of sampling and collage-based works. In the US, a similar law has already been passed but “fair...

This is Barack Obama’s first general election campaign ad in his bid to win the White House. His campaign have wisely focused on his background, suggesting that voters need to become familiar with the man if he’s to stand any chance of winning.
I’ve been following Obama’s campaign over the many months of the primary season and I believe he will be the next president of the US. I’ve no doubt that the Republicans will be slinging mud at him over the coming months and will seek to bring race into it somewhere (again). I’m impressed with this ad though. It’s campaigning to the every man, not strictly about foreign policy issues, but about employment and education....

Yes, that’s right. Despite never having met Grannymar I’ve been inducted into the exclusive ‘Grannymar Toyboy’ club. I must have got it on reputation or else it’s the company I keep. Next Wednesday (2nd July, 7.30pm) is the inaugural Diet of Worms quiz thing. Darren talks about it here. They’re a bunch of comedic people (aka a troupe) and have been running the Puffincat Comedy Club in Bewleys for the past few months. If your on the Facebooks, you should add them. Anyway, they’re going to Edinburgh to partake in the festival and need euros, hence the quiz. I’ll be heading along with Darren, Lottie and Niamh. Teams of 4 are €40. A steal in other words. You may want to contact them ahead of time at dietofwormscomedy [at] gmail.com to secure a table.
